COOKING LEVEL: noob beginner standard

Quick simple recipe that requires a watchful eye so you don't burn your popcorn.

Serving Size: 2-3 people Total Cooking Time: 15min.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels

  • 3 tbsp oil

  • 4 tbsp vegan butter or oil

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • optional: furikake or kettle corn popcorn flavoring

  1. Start by heating up a pot with a lid at medium heat. I like to use a ceramic pot.

  2. Place 3 kernels into the pot and 3 tbsp of oil with the lid closed.

  3. Let it sit till you hear all 3 kernels pop.

  4. Pour the rest of the kernels + 4 tbsp oil into the pot then with the lid closed, then slowly shake the pan so that the oil coats the kernels. This will prevent any popcorn from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

  5. Keep the lid closed and you will hear the popcorn start to pop.

  6. Once you start hearing the popping sounds slow down, slide the lid a centimeter open as an airhole but not big enough for popcorn to pop out.

  7. Once the popping has stopped altogether, turn off the stove and remove the pot from the stove.

  8. Carefully open the lid and stir the popcorn around.

  9. At this point you can add your favorite topping. Stir the flavoring around so it's evenly integrated with the popcorn. Furikake flakes make for a crispy volcano popcorn, kettle corn sprinkle makes for sweet.

Recipe Notes:

  • Make sure your pot doesn't have a built in air hole. The heat needs to be trapped in for better cooking time.

  • You can replace the oil with coconut oil for a nutty flavor. I find it pairs well with the furikake topping.
