COOKING LEVEL: noob beginner standard

A simple stirring recipe requiring a couple different machinery.

Serving Size: 2 pizzas Total Cooking Time: 1hr.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1/3 cup white onion, diced

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1/4 tsp korean red pepper flakes (gochugaru)

  • 28oz can whole tomatoes or boil your own (see recipe notes below)

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • 3/4 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • optional: 3 sprigs of fresh basil

  1. In a medium sized pot, heat to medium high heat.

  2. Add olive oil + onions. Cook till onions turn shiny and translucent.

  3. Add garlic + chili powder. Cook till garlic smells fragrant.

  4. Add tomatoes + oregano + salt + black pepper.

  5. While mixing, break up tomatoes with a masher or fork.

  6. Add basil and cook till it starts simmering little bubbles.

  7. Reduce the heat to medium low.

  8. When it starts simmering again, let cook for 20-30min.

  9. Take out the basil and add more salt + pepper based on the taste.

  10. Turn off heat.

  11. If there's still a lot of chunks of tomato, you can let it cool before pouring it into a processor/blender. Blend till it resembles a smooth marinara sauce.

  12. Store in glass jars or use to make homemade pizza or pasta sauce.

Recipe Notes:

  • Tired of buying store bought marinara sauce? You can make your own homemade for meal prep.

  • If you don't want to buy canned tomatoes, buy some fresh tomatoes and boil them in submerged water till the skin starts to peel. Remove the tomatoes to a cutting board where you can remove the peel with some tongs. Once cooled down a bit, chop the tomatoes into bite sized chunks before continuing with your recipe.
