Korean Tofu Stir Fry 두부 조림

COOKING LEVEL: noob beginner standard

Not only is there mixing and marinating, but getting the tofu texture down is what makes or breaks the recipe.


Serving Size: 3-4 people Total Cooking Time: 30min.


INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pack of firm tofu

  • 2 tsp sesame oil + more to oil pan

  • 1/3 cup water

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 green onion, diced

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 1 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)

  • 5 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp salt

  • sesame seeds

  • optional: red bell pepper, diced


  1. Drain tofu and slice into 1/4 inch thick rectangles.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk sesame oil + water + soy sauce + green onion + sugar + gochugaru

  3. Turn on a frying pan or sauce pan to medium high heat and add 1 tbsp of sesame oil.

  4. Add red bell pepper + garlic. Cook till garlic starts to smell fragrant.

  5. Place tofu slices onto pan to cover entire pan, but don't overlap them.

  6. Cook for 5 min. or until light brown.

  7. Flip tofu slices and using a spoon drizzle half the sauce over the tofu.

  8. Cook for another 5 min. or so then transfer to a serving dish.

  9. Repeat steps for the rest of the tofu and sauce.

  10. Garnish tofu with sesame seeds and green onion to serve.


Recipe Notes:

  • This tofu dish not only tastes good but is a great dietary substitute for protein.

  • If your spice tolerance is low, you don't need to add the gochugaru.

  • Alongside red bell pepper, you can also cook with onion slices and shiitake mushrooms.

  • For a deeper flavor, marinate your tofu + sauce in tupperware and refrigerate for an hour before cooking.
