Classic French Toast

This recipes requires a 2-part dipping step before cooking.


Serving Size: 4 Total Cooking Time: 45min.


INGREDIENTS

  • 8 Slices of GF bread (Udi's or Canyon Bakehouse)

  • 4 eggs

  • 1/2 cup Lactaid lactose free milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • olive oil

  • pinch of salt

  • your favorite maple syrup

  • optional: powdered sugar topping


  1. Prepare two shallow bowls.

  2. In the first bowl, whisk together the eggs + lactaid + vanilla + salt

  3. In the second bowl, stir the brown sugar + cinnamon.

  4. Slice the bread into 2 inch sticks or triangles.

  5. Heat up the pan or skillet to medium heat. Add the olive oil.

  6. While the pan is heating up, dip the bread slices into the egg mix.

  7. Let the excess drip then coat with the cinnamon sugar.

  8. Place the dipped slices onto the pan, spreading evenly without stacking.

  9. Flip each slice once before transferring to a serving plate.

  10. Serve with maple syrup, fruit, or sift some powdered sugar.

  • If you want a fluffier french toast, you can lightly soak the GF bread and pre-cook for a minute or two before dipping. This can help match the dry bread with the original soft texture of french toast.
